Month 5 - 23 August to 23 September 2018
23 September 2018 | Italië, Pescara
All beautiful places, great places to visit with perfect sunny weather, enjoying the stunning views and amazingly blue water of the Mediterranean Sea.
At the end of August, my dad Wiebo and aunt Pia came over to Quinto; very excited to see the new kitchen and bathroom! And according to them it was even better in real life that it was on the pictures we’ve sent them previously.
Being together in Italy also means having a delicious lunch together at the family table at home, with a great variety of fresh Italian food and a good bottle of wine. Thank you nonna & opa… <3.
On Saturday 1 September we started our big holiday trip; in the following three weeks we travelled through four different countries (Italy, crossing Slovenia to get to Croatia, crossing Bosnia to travel south through Croatia).
In the first three days of our trip we drove from Quinto to Venice where we spent a day walking around this beautiful but busy and very crowded city.
The following day we drove to Croatia, where we met Simon’s mum and her hubbie to continue the trip through Croatia together.
While exploring the country of Croatia, we travelled 700 km to Dubrovnik, mainly by cruising over the small roads along the coastline.
On our way south we visited many great places and national parks (including Plitvice and Krka).
On 16 September we took the overnight ferry from Croatia (Split) back to Italy (Ancona).
But before we continued our trip, we got the campervan checked out as the engine started to make some funny noises… That’s when the shit hit the ‘van’ - need a new engine!!! This will be a very expensive repair because of the cost of a new engine and the hours of a mechanic to swap the engines.
And trying to get this all sorted in a country where you don’t speak the language, a place where you don’t know your way around, and you don’t know who to trust, is going to be an interesting challenge!
After getting some basic things sorted (ordered a reconditioned engine for which we had to drive two hours inland to Pesche, and made an appointment for the engine swap at Opel in Pescara where they couldn’t start working on the car in the next ten days), we had to re-plan the continuation of our trip.
Instead of remaining stuck on the east coast of Italy, we left the campervan behind at the Opel dealer in Pescara, rented a car and continued our trip to south Italy.
To be continued…
