Month 2 - 23 May to 23 June 2018
23 Juni 2018 | Italië, Quinto al Mare
All preparation work is almost done now; this included removing tiles from the walls, removing gas installation and everything related to it, relocating waterpipes/drain/electricity, building a new meterbox (to allow for more/heavier kitchen appliances: induction, oven, dishwasher), rebuilding the walls, removing floor tiles, applying levelling compound to the floor making it ready for tiling.
Painting and floor tiling will be done over the next few days and then the new kitchen will be delivered on Friday this week! Yay, getting excited!
Mixed feelings when removing the old kitchen though…
The tiles where my opa attached the labels from some good wine bottles are gone now, and so is the stove where my nonna cooked Italian family dinners.
But also realising that they are the reason why we can enjoy this beautiful place, keeping the loving memories in our hearts forever.
And we have re-used some of the kitchen cabinets in the storage room in the basement!
In between kitchen renovation work we have also completed some other jobs: fixing the tapparelle (in both Quinto and Milano), buying a new washing machine and TV (then it’s soooo good to have a van!), and all other sorts of small things in and around the house.
In between the days of hard work, we enjoyed a few days off:
We have been hiking over a mountain for 2.5 hours from Camogli to San Fruttuoso. The beautiful isolated rocky beach at the Abbey of San Fruttuose is an amazing location that's perfect for a cool-down swim. In the afternoon we returned to Camogli by boat.
My parents finally got to celebrate my birthday with me, in Italy! Great presents: flowers, Campari Spritz combo pack (mix together: Campari, Prosecco, sparkling water, with some ice), going out for dinner. That was also their last day in Italy and they travelled back to the Netherlands the following day.
On another day we went on a road trip from town to town along the beautiful sunny coast towards La Spezia, visiting Bogliasco, Camogli, Portofino, Rapallo, Zoagli, Chiavari, and Sestri Levante (part of a scenic route along 'Le 9 Meraviglie' – The 9 Wonders).
And with the great views we have from our apartment in Quinto al Mare, we couldn't go without a delicious bbq-for-two on the rooftop terrace!
We also flew back to the Netherlands for a few days to celebrate the 90th birthday of Simon’s opa and my mum’s 68th.
There was a big family party for Simon’s opa, with coffee, cake and drinks in the afternoon and a family dinner to close it off. Opa enjoyed having all his kids and grandkids around him and appreciated the big piece of salmon for dinner! :-)
For my mum’s 68th, my sister and I took her out on a sunny Sunday afternoon for a girls-only lunch and boat trip in Dordrecht. Dinner was at home (cooked by my dad) with the boys and little niece joining us.
